Preliminary Results

Day 1, Saturday, June 30, 2012

The morning started off with sunshine and the day continued with downpours of rain, but nothing the Big Dawg competitors could not handle.  Before 10am we already saw a few 39′s run and more throughout the day.  59 year old Kris LaPoint got a lot of cheers from the fans as he pumped out his first 39 off.  Some of the stats for the day were:

  • 39′ off was run 13 times by 10 different skiers
  • Head to Head seeds 1-8 were all broken based upon tiebreaks, with skiers needing 1 @ 41′ off or better to make seeds 1-8
  • 5 of the 8 head to head seeds 9-16 were determined by tiebreaks, with a 5-way run-off for the final three spots.
  • Full field of 50 skiers participating at the qualifer.

There was a run-off for three places that were remaining for 14, 15 and 16th place.  Bruce Dodd, Tim Huston, Mike Dehlinger, Jeff Kepchia and Joe McCreary went to battle for the last three spots.  Kepchia, Huston, and Dehlinger won the crown.  But the most spectacular event and the fall of the day was Jeff Kepchia’s turn out of 3 ball and the apparent lean lock that sent him up on the shore resulting in a ripped vest and bib.  We are glad he is ok and will be ready to compete on Sunday.  Check out a few videos from the day YouTube

There will be a 10:00am start on Sunday for the head to head.

Here are the pairings for the Sweet 16 and final scores

Big Dawg Athletes are preparing to travel to Houston, Texas to participate in the 3rd qualifier for the Nautique Big Dawg.  Check back here for  for all the stories, scores and videos coming your way during the competition.

Greg Davis caught up with Chad Scott and asked him a few questions.
Greg:  What is it going to take to win Texas?
Chad:  A lot of 39′s
Greg:  What ski will you be riding?
Chad: It’s a Goode
Greg:  Is it a mid-ride or traditional?
Chad:  It’s a secret
Greg:  Who do you think will win the Texas tour stop?
Chad:  It’s going to be a good preview for the finals.  There is a lot of depth.  Whoever wins will have to have their game face on and be consistent.  I won in Texas last year, and I would like to win again this year.  Back to back.  We will see.
Greg:  What do you think about the weather for Texas?
Chad:  The tropical storm will not affect us.
Greg:  Good luck Chad
Chad:  Thanks and looking forward to Texas!
